According
to the teenage mother, the toddler and his two year old
sibling were left playing on a verandah, while she went
to do laundry in their yard.
Completing
her task less than half an hour after, the 19-year old
said she returned to the upper flat where she saw her
younger son in the bucket, with his head down.

She
said she immediately took him out, and while rubbing his
stomach saw water flowing from his nostrils.
Neighbours
attempted to resuscitate the child but were
unsuccessful. The toddler was subsequently taken to the
New Amsterdam Hospital where he was pronounced dead on
arrival.
Asked
why the child was not taken to the health centre in the
Village, the mother said it was closed.
The
father, an employee of the Guyana Sugar Corporation, was
at work at the time and got the sad news when he
returned home.
Police said they are investigating.
