Speeding driver slams into bus, car at Albion… Four-year-old girl killed, six critical, nine others hospitalised
A four–year-old girl was killed, and six others were seriously injured, at around 20:00 hrs on Sunday, after a speeding car, with ten passengers crammed inside, slammed into two vehicles on the Albion Public Road. Police said the child, Nikita Joseph, of Courtland, Corentyne, was sitting in the front seat of the packed car. She was killed instantly. Those listed as critical are Andre Joseph, 31; Troy Joseph, 10; Latoya Joseph, 13; all of Courtland, Corentyne; Vicknanand Babulall, 31, a minibus driver of Anchorville, Port Mourant; Renita Ramsaroop; and Roxanne Joseph. They are being treated at the Georgetown Hospital. Latoya and Troy, who are cousins, both have broken arms and legs. Admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital are Eon Joseph, five; Travis Joseph, nine; Ashanti Charles, aged four months; Lana Ramsaroop, 20; and Shivnarine Ramsaroop, five. Several other passengers received medical treatment, but were not admitted. At the time of the accident, Andre Joseph was driving motor car PKK 3630, which contained about ten passengers, including Nikita, Latoya Troy, Eon and Travis Joseph, as well as Shamroy and Ashanti Charles. They were heading to Rose Hall Town to buy ice cream when the accident occurred. Several other children were also travelling in the bus that was involved in the three-vehicle crash. According to reports, Joseph was heading west, at a fast rate, towards the Albion Bridge, when he lost control of his car. He slammed into an approaching car, PFF 8471, driven by Cranston McKend, 38; and Mc Kend's car slammed into Babulall's minibus, BJJ 6935. Four-year-old Nikita Joseph, who was in the front seat of Joseph's car, sustained multiple injuries, and died shortly after. Andre, Latoya, and Troy Joseph were rushed to the Georgetown Hospital immediately after the accident. Minibus driver Vicknanand Babulall, Renita Ramsaroop, and Roxanne Joseph were admitted to a Berbice Hospital, but were transferred to the Georgetown Hospital yesterday.
