A man who allegedly murdered the co-owner of Boyo's Fashion store three months ago was yesterday refused bail by Acting Chief Magis-trate Cecil Sullivan at the Georgetown Magistrate's Court. Sherwain Sampson, age 26, of 2091 William Street, Kitty was not required to plead to the murder charge. It is alleged that on September 26 at Georgetown he murdered Sharool Persaud. Appearing on Sampson's behalf were attorneys-at-law Glen Hanoman along with Simone Morris Ramlal. Hanoman told the court that his client had been in custody for eight days and he was charged with murder based on insufficient evidence. He asked for an early date so that his client could be reunited with his family. It was reported that 42-year-old Sharool Persaud, known as 'Buck' of La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara, and co-owner of Boyo's Variety Store was shot and killed by two unmasked men who entered the store pretending to be customers just before midday on September 26. According to reports, the woman may have fought with one of the bandits over a bag she had, which reportedly contained a large sum of money. It is believed that the gunmen may have trailed the woman and her husband, Ajodha Persaud known as 'Boyo' from one of the city's Scotia Bank branches where they had gone to transact business. According to a release from the police, Mrs Persaud was in the cashier cage when the two men entered the store. They browsed, pretending to be customers then suddenly one of them rushed to the cashier cage with a firearm and demanded cash. In the process, he discharged several rounds hitting the woman about the body. The two then escaped on foot after grabbing an undisclosed sum of cash and a bag with documents. Sampson's case was transferred to Court Six for December 11. |
