Gunmen beat,
rob elderly farmer
POLICE were yesterday investigating an armed robbery on
80-year-old rice and cattle farmer, Oudit Persaud, at his home at
Pine
Ground, Mahaicony Creek.
Three gunmen, Police said, stormed into his house through an open
door at about 21:00 h Monday and stuck him up.
A Police press statement said the gunmen demanded cash and
jewellery and after Persaud resisted, he was gun butted and kicked
about his body.
The men then ransacked the house and took away the victim’s
licenced shotgun and .32 revolver, cartridges and rounds and local
and foreign currency, Police said.
The three fled in Persaud’s boat which was later recovered at
the Perth koker (sluice), Mahaicony.
Police said Persaud has been admitted to a city hospital.
