Police up to last evening were still on the hunt for four suspects in the killing of Enter-prise businessman, Lakeram McKenzie. Police have arrested three persons - two men who worked with the businessman and a woman who is connected to one of the men. The police are also still guarding at the hospital the suspect who was shot during the robbery. Police sources told this newspaper that Mc Kenzie knew some of his killers and the suspect in hospital was one who used to visit his property. Reports also say that Mc Kenzie had associations with shady characters many of whom conducted business on his behalf. The shot suspect at the hospital had admitted to this newspaper that he was at the scene of the murder and that the attack had been planned several weeks ago. A senior police source told Stabroek News last evening that they were still looking for the other suspects in the murder. The officer said that they have been making some headway in their probe, but they would like to round up all of the suspects. On charging persons, the officer said that in the coming week persons would be taken before the courts. "We are moving, but these investigations usually take some time so we have to be patient, but we are making progress and things are looking good," the officer declared. He added that investigators were still collecting statements from persons. Reports are that, Mc Kenzie, his wife and their children were in their home, when six armed men confronted them. The armed men placed Mc Kenzie and his family to lie on the floor and robbed them of cash and jewellery. Mc Kenzie was then taken outside of his house where he was shot dead. Police retrieved eight 7.62x39 spent shells; one live 7.62x39 ammunition, one magazine for a Beretta and one live 7.62x39 live round. The dead man's motorcar PFF 2930 was discovered in the yard with the back windscreen damaged. Two men are presently in custody assisting the police in their investigations. |
