An Army patrol on the night of Wednesday December 4, 2002, intercepted a bullet proof vehicle on the East Coast of Demerara in which was discovered an arsenal of weaponry (including military type assault weapons, some fitted with night vision telescopic sights), Uzi sub-machine guns, assorted ammunition, silencers, and also bullet proof vests and a lap-top computer cum scanner capable of intercepting both land and cellular telephone calls.

The Indian business community has no agenda to help stop crime
Thursday, December 14th 2006

Dear Editor,

Mr Wiggins's analysis dealing with the systematic decimation of Indian businesses/businessmen is quite correct. The current administration is interested only in begging. They have no interest in developing Guyana and creating real wealth. The Government is made up of old/new communists and a few outsiders who are just happy to follow orders from the unlettered commissars.

Indian businessmen are a docile lot, they are interested in making money by honest/dishonest means. They cannot speak up for their rights, several Indian businessmen are involved in activities that are illegal and they enjoy prominence in the corrupt society that permeates Guyana. I can name only a few Indian businessmen who plied a clean trade and never got involved in dirty business.

It is very sad that the Indian Business Community has no agenda to help stop crime, they kowtow to whichever party is in power to gain self gratification. It is the same situation in Trinidad and Suriname.

Indians will continue to suffer, present and past administrations did nothing to alleviate crime.

Yours faithfully,

Vijay Singh
