Man jailed on break and enter, robbery charges

              Oclive Marshall
Oclive Marshall was sentenced to two years imprisonment for several break and enter and larceny charges when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen, yesterday.

In addition, he has to serve one year on a charge of robbery under arms. Marshall was also ordered to pay a fine of $5,000 with an alternative of four months on another larceny charge.

Marshall, 34, (no given address) is alleged to have stolen from the property of Peter Ross at McDoom, East Bank Demerara on December 30, 2001, one wrist watch, a torch light, a bottle of skin cream and a quantity of mechanical tools all valued at $847,000.

On May 21, last, Marshall allegedly robbed Matha Persaud of $7,000 also at McDoom, East Bank Demerara.

The particulars of the offence stated that Persaud, the owner of a minibus, stopped in McDoom to effect some repairs to his vehicle. He later left for the Esso Gas Station in the same area. Upon his return, he was approached by the defendant, who, armed with a cutlass, pounced on him and relieved him of $6,000. The two engaged in a scuffle, during which, Marshall reportedly fired a chop at Persaud and then relieved him of another $1,000.

Meanwhile, on July 28, the defendant was seen climbing from the fence of George Walton at McDoom. He later removed a gas bottle from the premises.

Marshall pleaded guilty to all the charges.

Magistrate Holder-Allen warned Marshall that the penalty for a life of crime is a stretch of many years behind bars away from the five children he has.
