The
truck at the scene
Dead is Ganesh Bheen of 9 Onion Field, LBI. Eyewitnesses
said about 16:20 h they saw the privately owned truck, which works with
the Guyana Sugar Corporation (Guysuco), turning a corner and they saw the
boy as he attempted to jump from it. Bheen fell and was pinned between the a Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL) utility pole and the truck.
The
driver, Renick Geoffrey, 64, of Victoria, East Coast Demerara, said he
heard a resident shouting for him to stop. He got out and saw the child
caught between the truck and the pole. He said he did not know that the
boy was on the vehicle. The
boy died en route to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). Residents
told the Chronicle that the boy was seen playing in the truck when it was
parked at the Guysuco pay office minutes before the accident, just a few
yards away. Reports
said the child would normally play in the parked trucks there. Mother
of the deceased, Kachari Sahadeo, 49, said she was at work at Mon Repos
when she received the news of her son's death. The
woman was inconsolable and lost consciousness several times at the scene
of the accident yesterday, after she returned from the hospital. Eyewitnesses
